Description

This sorting activity is a unique and fun way to practice Order of Operations core standard 5.OA.A.1!

Your students are given a list of 24 expressions and the answer to each one is either 0, 5, or 10. They will solve the expressions and sort them into those three answer groups.

Students will solve expressions containing some combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and parentheses.

None of the expressions have exponents. Most expressions have one set of parentheses, some have two sets of parentheses, and other expressions have no parentheses.

There are four different versions included so you can use this activity in many different ways! It also includes an answer key.

There are two 1-page versions that students can work on individually at their desks. One version is written (in case you don’t want to deal with scissors and glue sticks) and the other is a cut-and-sort activity.

I added two larger versions for use in small groups or as a station in a rotation activity.

Fun activities like this are a welcome change of pace from a traditional worksheet. Your class will have fun while getting their practice in Order of Operations core standard 5.OA.A.1!
