This mystery picture activity is a fun change of pace and helps you cover Order of Operations core standard 5.OA.A.1:
Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.

Your students will solve 21 expressions matched with puzzle pieces. As your class solves the expressions, they match the corresponding puzzle piece with the correct space on the answer grid.

All expressions contain no exponents.
Most expressions contain one set of parentheses and some have two sets of parentheses.

It has two variations – there’s a cut & paste version and a drawing version. If you don’t want to get out the scissors and glue sticks, you can use the blank answer grid and have them draw the image instead of cutting and pasting.

Have them color in the image for extra fun and relaxation.

The activity comes with a worksheet and an answer key for easy grading, but if you want to save paper and ink your class can show their work on their own paper.

Regular worksheets are so boring! This is a great way to give yourself an easy day and give your class a fun and new way to practice. Just print and go – no prep!
